Choosing To Be Great

Everything we do is a choice. So why not choose to be great?

Greatness takes hard work and time. Time means patience. We want everything and we want it now. And we want it to be easy. We want to make a viral video which gets millions of hits but we don’t want to learn how to use a camera, learn how to upload a video, or even have an original idea.

We look at the rock star, comedian, or actress and think their stardom fell into their lap like a winning the lottery. But even to win it, you still have to go buy a ticket. What we don’t see is the years of taking lessons, practicing, and all the failures.

We don’t see the blood sweat and tears professional athletes put in for the first 20+ years of their life before they get paid a single dime. We don’t get to watch them rehab from injuries or train in the off-season.

No matter how motivated, inspired, or determined we are it’s always tempting to slack off and just be mediocre. Who’s going to notice anyway, let alone care?

The thing about obscurity though is you can guarantee yourself a permanent place there when you do nothing, or if you don’t try to be great. You may never be famous, but we should know by now that if that’s all we’re after, it won’t be satisfying anyway.

I want to live a life where I’m perfectly content where I am while working as hard as I can at everything I do.
